This client should still work fine for MySQL Server 5.7. The client can still be started with the command mysql, and the documentation for it is here. You can use apt-get install default-mysql-client which will install mariadb-client-10.3. Download and install: wget sudo dpkg -i mysql-apt-config_0.8.17-1_all.debÄuring the installation process, you can select the desired MySQL version, by default it was the 8th version. 18 Debian stopped packaging mysql-client as of buster. But there is no mysql 8 compatible client available. I had this file mysql-apt-config_0.8.17-1_all.deb. But I also another Debian 10 instance that doesn't need a mysql server, but only a client to connect to the central mysql 8.0 server. apt-get install mysql-client-core-5.6 mysql-client-5.6 mysql-server-5.6 Make sure to backup all data as this will delete everything. First, go here and look for the most recent version of mysql-apt-config _ * _ all.deb. Trying to fix a broken mysql installation, this happened after upgrading from debian 6.0 to 7.0.
